My name is Alexandra O’Toole, but you can call me Alex. These days I’m a freelance writer, full time mum and part time wife. I write poetry and fiction. At the moment I’m at the editing stage of a novel called The Empty Mirror , a generational story primarily set in the late 1920’s about the legacy of bad motherhood. It’s a labour of love.
In 2012 I completed MA in Creative Writing at Lancaster University. I’ve also got a degree in English and the History of Art from the University of York and a Postgraduate Diploma in Publishing from Oxford Brookes University. I did these years ago when I thought that life as a grown up would be linear and that a fabulous job as a book editor in London would follow. It didn’t. Long story – I’ll tell you about it some time. Anyway, after a ten year detour to the world of corporate marketing, writing, in one guise or another, is now my profession.
This blog is primarily used to document my fiction writing antics but sometimes, if I think it might be of interest, I post up information and links to some of my more general published pieces of commercial writing and other things that I like.
